What is a Private Utility?

Private utilities may include but are not limited to:  Gas, Water, Electric, Sewer and Communication lines. Public utilities are usually maintained up to a demarcation point such as a meter, tap, junction box, transformer, valve, etc. Utilities who receive locate requests, through Arizona 811 (previously known as Blue Stake) will typically locate only to those demarcation points. Southwest Locating is a private utility locating company that locates and marks the private utilities on the private property side of the demarcation point.
